OK, the place is a little weird, but in a good way. We will always stay here when we come to Dubuque, why pay so much more for so much less, just because the décor is from way back! We dont use a pool anyway, and we don't order room service, so who cares! Beds are comfy, and all is clean, and great service at the desk! One more item we love, we bring our own bagels and drinks and such and there is a fridge and a table with 4 chairs, love that! Our room also had a toaster and counters in the kitchen area, lots of room! Hit Diamond Joes couple of times, could have gone to winery there or many other places. Love that you can walk right over to the Riverfront. We did get a ride to Jubecks which is a craft beer place we love too! We then came back and hit the Rainbow Lounge, sometimes overly packed, this time just enough to have fun and drinks, lots of drinks lol! Next day we decided to stay in the area and were able to walk to dinner at the Shot Tower. The casino shuttle stops right in front, just ask the desk to call and they normally come fast! First night we went to Mystique and shuttle was good. We go because of the casinos and my son goes to Platteville, but when we go all 5 or 6 of us go and for $85 a night really? Such a deal! try staying in a regular hotel and have this much room! The bedroom part is separate from the kitchen sitting area which was perfect for extra dressing room and us early risers did not wake everyone else up. We had 5 adults and got what we call the honeymoon suite - obviously it is not - but it has 3 double beds in it and lots of room for additional cot we brought from home.

If you are into fancy or worried because things are older (but still clean) Don't stay here, you will not like it. If you are not high maintenance and want an experience to remember- come to The Canfield! We shall return.Īnother reviewer put it perfectly - if you like clean and economical and are OK with fun and cheesy, this is your place! Awesome location for most places in Dubuque. All in all The Canfield was a very interesting place to visit! The bar/karaoke lounge on the first floor was fun as well.
Canfield green felt windows#
The windows in the room opened so that was nice to have the fresh air.

It was SO tiny! Water didnt drain well either, but we dealt with it for the weekend just fine. Now the shower/tiolet room.LOL we got a chuckle out of this! You had to stand in the shower to close the door, and step over the toilet to get out of shower.
Canfield green felt tv#
Kitchenette with fridge and micro, sitting area with loveseat (old and worn) and coffee table, table and two chairs, double bed (uncomfortable and dipped in the middle, but clean and bug free) small tube TV with remote, sink and vanity outside of bathroom. Yes the elevator smelled a bit funky, but it's an old building! Our room was interesting. Minutes walk to casino and interesting sites downtown. It's a no brainer! Hotel location is excellent, great food across the street at the Sunshine Cafe. If you are rude and condescending- you will get attitude back. If you have a complaint about your room kindly explain it to staff and they will deal with it. People- remember if YOU are nice, usually you will get it back. Front desk staff was decent enough, not overly friendly, but not fake-which we like. Everyone we interacted with was friendly and polite and we did not feel threatened or uncomfortable once. Many "long term" residents here- folks down on their luck, out of work, etc. It was one of the cheapest places in town for the weekend. This is an old place with a lot of history. If you appreciate a fun, unique atmosphere with local character you will be just fine. If you are the type that likes spas, fitness centers, turn-down service, etc- the Canfield is NOT for you.
